2-3 hours of mining and the hull and fitting is payed for. With no rigs a retriever can fit 3 MLU II's in the lows and 2 T2 srips in the highs with a survey scanner in the single mid. You do know we are talking about a retriever right? Or are you officer fitting it?ġ medium slot and 3 low slots with a base ehp of 7,806 there is no way of hitting 21k ehp without rigs. With a combination shield/armor/hull tank using all rig slots you can hit about 20k ehp and still fit two T2 strips but again needs T2 rigs. And it doesn't leave enough power grid to even fit 2 T2 strips. I can hit 21k ehp armor tanked with a retriever, it not only requires rigs but T2 rigs. If you are on a gank infested area and already have good base mining skills, armor tanking it will give you 21kehp with no rigs on it. They are expensive and worth ganking, and thus worth protecting.

It is when you get into exhumers that you want to get a good tanking fit. Keep it cheap, and if you do get ganked, no big loss.

Adding expensive tanking mods just increases your potential loss.Ī retriever is best to be viewed as a throw away ship. Fit it for max yield, and unless you are in gank territory the ship should pay for it self 10 times over before you lose it. The kill mail looks bad as the ship is worth less than the ship used to gank it. Most gankers do not bother with T1 mining ships. They are cheap to buy, so best option is max yield. It is not worth giving up yield for tank as not amount of tank will suvive a suicide gank. Fit a cheap tank if you want, but nothing expensive.Ī retriever even with the best tank you can put on it is way to easy to gank. Also you really should keep that drone bay for light combat drones.I would even not bother with rigs or mid slots unless they are adding to yield. How about mining drones? In my experience, because of the travel time, mining drone actual yield tends to be significantly less than the advertised amount. If you have an issue with CPU, there is a rig for that, as well as power grid. I would use the rig slots for defensive (shield amount and/or resists). The only rigs that directly benefit mining are for mining drones and deep core mining (which is only done in null and usually in a mining barge). The other slots for fitting a ship are the rig slots. The other mid-slots can be used for an afterburner or to increase your shield defense (shield booster and/or hardeners).

Nice to know about how much is left in there so you can short cycle your lasers (If there is less than you will get from a full cycle, then you can stop the laser early). The purpose of a survey scanner is to show you how much ore is left in an asteroid, ice and gas cloud.

For this, I suggest you just use the meta 0 until you spend the time to move directly to meta 5.Īs for the mid slots, you may want to consider a survey scanner. The skill needed to use mining upgrades is rank 4, so it takes more than 4 days to be able to use the tech 2, meta 5 version. Now, the meta 1-4 of those are stupid expensive, costing tens of millions of ISK. So, my suggestion is to use meta 3 until you get mining to level 4, then switch to the mining laser IIs as soon as you can.īut, the venture also has a low slot, and into that low slot can go a thing called the mining laser upgrade. That only takes about a day of training, and the skill itself will up your mining amount. It has 50% better yield than the base meta 0. The big jump comes at meta 5, the tech 2. In my area of space the meta 3 cost about 10K ISK and the meta 4 cost 150K. You can see the meta 3 do almost 20% better than the ones you are given by the tutorial.

On the compare tool, add meta level and mining yield, then sort by meta level. Go to variations tab, then press compare. Let’s show info on the mining laser you are given by the tutorials. Some obvious things to fit to your venture are mining lasers and drones.
